India’s largest mobile operator has over 334 million subscribers and aims to streamline service assurance.
The company was formed by the merger of Vodafone and Idea in August last year in response to the 4G-only Jio, which transformed the competitive landscape in India.
There are signs that the combined company is gaining traction, but it needs to converge the two networks and associated systems.
Vodafone Idea’s service and network operations centre (SNOC) monitors and controls its network and service offerings. HPE’s Intelligent Assurance solution will also increase the SNOC’s use of robotic process automation.

Remote monitoring
The SNOC is based in the Indian city of Pune and remotely monitors 192,000 2G sites and about 372,000 broadband (3G+4G) sites across 22 circles, which are separate markets within India, designated by the regulator. Each circle has its own, competing licensed mobile operators.
HPE first supplied Vodafone in India with OSS more than ten years ago. The new platform includes machine learning-based HPE Intelligent Assurance solution.
