Operators need to commit fully to the Internet of Things if they are to win the battle for the consumer market, an Arthur D Little executive has claimed.
Speaking at the recent Mobile Europe and European Communications IoT in Telecoms conference, Jonathan Rowan, Partner at Arthur D. Little, outlined the challenges facing operators within this space.
He said telcos are third in the minds of consumers regarding who is best placed to succeed. They trail tech firms and appliance manufacturers.
Amazon, seen by consumers in the Arthur D Little analysis as the most successful consumer IoT company, is also the biggest investor in terms of M&A.
Rowan said: “The lesson is telcos need to take this space seriously to win.”
Last year Vodafone launched four consumer solutions as part of its V by Vodafone range. These include a connected car dongle and connected security camera.
