Operators need to embrace software, transformational leadership strategies and financial skillsets to respond to the changing telecoms landscape, VEON’s Chief Technology Officer has said.
Speaking in an exclusive video interview at Mobile Europe’s CTO of the Year event last month, Yogesh Malik, who won the Group CTO of the Year award, said the potential of virtualisation and wider 5G technologies require a step change in how a CTO goes about their role and the abilities of their team.
He said: “What has brought us here [to LTE] will not take us [to 5G] automatically.”
Malik also talked about what he hopes VEON’s new customer platform will deliver in the years ahead and what winning the award meant to him.
