Telco wins accolade from umlaut
Nokia has claimed credit for Telia Denmark’s ascent to become the apex telco in Denmark, the home of hygge, which was recently recognised as the world’s happiest country. The telco’s network, provided by the Danish unit of Swedish telco Telia, was found to be the outstanding performer in the country’s four largest cities by testing firm umlaut, which assessed the quality of the country’s mobile radio network coverage.
Finnish networking equipment vendor Nokia supplied the full network and supporting expertise and services to TTN, the joint network of Telenor and Telia in Denmark. Nokia designed, planned and optimised the Radio Access Network (RAN) for its Scandinavian neighbours and then installed it, fine tuning every switch and server’s settings to fit it around the tricky terrain and micro-climates across the territory.
The network infrastructure was built on foundations comprising units from the energy-efficient Nokia AirScale portfolio including 5G Massive MIMO antennae. These contemporary ‘vikings horns’ of broadcast communications have upped the ante of the network with ultra-fast, low-latency and high-capacity mobile broadband signals that hit the smartphones of Danes across the kingdom, from Art House to Aarhus. Nokia’s support for Telia’s core network includes the gift of a high-performance Cloud Packet Core with Subscriber Data Management and data consolidated in its Shared Data Layer.
Nokia said the Telia network now performs better because the engineers optimised services from end to end to maintain premium network performance. Nokia Managed Operations offered support for Telia Denmark by performing network analysis and then mapping improvement areas, concentrating particularly on voice and data. Nokia and Telia Denmark endlessly tested and edited the network, using artificial intelligence to expedite matters and quality control methods to sanity check the AI. That led to an across-the-board leap in network quality. “The teams have done a superb job optimizing the network,” said Telia Denmark CTO Daniel Askeroth.
Nokia is the exclusive supplier of 5G RAN (Radio Access Network) to TTN, the joint network of Telenor and Telia in Denmark, which covers 4,300 sites and serves over three million subscribers nationwide. Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia said that high-performance radio networks are the key to delivering an outstanding mobile user experience. ”The combined strength of the RAN and Core products and Managed Operations we provide to Telia have really helped them to get the best out of their network. We look forward to continuing this important partnership and strengthening Telia’s position as Denmark’s best network,” said Uitto.
