Telefónica is expanding its converged services in Spain through the deployment of a new session border controller from Oracle.
The vendor said the project will help Telefónica improve the provision of its residential service, rich communication services, SIP trunking, interconnection to other operators and voice over LTE.
Telefónica said the move would help it launch new services quicker, with the controller offering a consistent set of software across all services and platforms.
The operator will also gain more flexibility is how it uses its network, increases its capabilities and also lay the groundwork for network function virtualisation. The controller offers deployment flexibility and network agility, which will help Telefónica as it deploys its wider UNICA virtualisation project.
Ángel Blázquez Martín, Core Network Director, Telefónica Spain, said: “We are committed to offering the kinds of innovative services that our customers are demanding. The first step is creating the modern and reliable network that can accommodate the connectivity that these services require.
“This is a significant evolution for us, and so we wanted the most proven technology and vendor for session border controls, which is why we chose Oracle. We are looking forward to expanding our existing collaborative relationship.”
Doug Suriano, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Communications, added: “As CSPs provide more converged communications services to their subscribers, flexibility and security in the network become even more critical.”
