The saga continues, with Bloomberg saying the incumbent has proposed some consolidation of fibre access networks
Last week we reported, again, that private equity firms were potentially interested in acquiring Vodafone Spain. The opco is, according to the group CEO, Margherita Della Valle, needing “structural change” and that Vodafone is considering “a range of options”. Vodafone is the third-largest operator in Spain.
Now Bloomberg cites Telefónica’s Chief Operating Officer, Angel Vila, saying his company, the largest telecoms operator in Spain, has suggested some consolidation of fibre access network to Vodafone Spain and is awaiting a response to its proposals. No details were given about the suggestions.
Vodafone is the third-largest telecom operator in Spain and has struggled in the fiercely competitive market. After months of negotiations, it missed out on a merger with the country’s fourth largest operator, MásMóvil, to Orange. That deal is still in the throes of approval.
