Telefónica Digital headlines European Communications Big Data Seminar

European Communications, the sister title of Mobile Europe, is hosting a free-to-attend seminar on 24 September that aims to assist and inform telcos who are looking into the wider challenges of big data.

Big data represents a big growth opportunity for operators, yet lack of understanding remains a significant issue.

 

According to the results of European Communications’ second annual big data survey, 23 percent of all respondent and 17 percent of all operators said that understanding big data is the second biggest barrier to successfully executing a big data strategy behind dealing with legacy systems and data remaining in siloes.

Yet over 40 percent of respondents said that big data is a strategic goal they are working towards in their organisation, so it’s important to bridge the information gap.

The seminar, which takes place at Tower 42 in London on Tuesday 24 September, will explore how the telecoms industry is getting to grips with big data, focusing on operator case studies; how big data can be used to improve internal processes and selling to third parties and insights into customer privacy surrounding big data.

Dr Richard Benjamins, Telefónica Digital’s Director of Business Intelligence will begin the seminar by outlining the operator’s latest vision for big data.

Dr Benjamins has worked in the development of business intelligence products across Telefónica’s footprint, from data mining to big data, targeted advertising, personalisation and privacy.

Andy Tiller, the Vice President of Product Marketing for AsiaInfo-Linkage, will be sharing an in-depth operator case study on China Mobile, meawhile.

The operator has been using big data analytics to create targeted customer segments for real-time, context-aware mobile marketing campaigns that are achieving impressive click-through rates.

Another interesting aspect to be covered at the seminar will be how telcos can be more proactive and bold in selling their customers’ data while adhering to the constraints they face.
