stc launches managed SD-WANs

SD-WAN gives enterprise clients the flexibility to connect their branches quickly and effectively, said Badr Al-Lhieb, Infrastructure Sector VP at stc

Nokia adds subtle Nuage to Saudi enterprises

The Saudi Telecom Company (stc) has launched a managed software defined wide area network (SD-WAN) service for the nation’s enterprises. It is built on Nokia’s Virtualized Network Services (VNS) platform, which promises ‘the ideal enterprise branch service’ using commodity customer premise equipment typically comprising Intel processor powered hardware, or x86-based CPEs, as Finland’s top comms equipment maker describes them. Khalid Hussain, head of Nokia’s stc customer business team, said that stc is taking a leadership role in this fast-changing market. “The Nuage Networks from Nokia SD-WAN solution will help stc enterprise customers gain the flexibility and functionality they need to drive their business into the cloud era,” said Hussain.

Leadership

The Nokia Nuage Networks are described as ‘transport agnostic’, meaning the system works with any transport mechanism, rather than the literal meaning of agnostic, which would imply that it does not believe in the existence of a transport mechanism. Having cleared up that definition, the software description coded into Nokia’s equipment gave the mobile operator stc a fast, secure installation of cloud-based WAN services with intelligent traffic steering, full application visibility and end-to-end security. The operator’s enterprise clients could benefit from the automatically provisioned plug and play services with quick and simple move, add and change requests.

Agnostic?

The stc SD-WAN solution is a key element in stc’s cloud portfolio, which aims to provide automated, dynamic, programmable and more efficient network services to its enterprise customers. It aims to create a rapid ordering regime and an automatic configuration of network services. As a boon to network managers in improves the visibility of events and increases the managerial control based on the individual requirements of the enterprise.

Cloud orchestration

As enterprises embrace cloud services, stc is transforming its digital services infrastructure to support them. In recognition of the potential powers of cloud-services and software-defined technologies, stc aimed to launch stc SD-WAN services. The stc SD-WAN is paired with Nokia Virtual Networks Orchestration (VNO) and Service Orchestrator (SO), an orchestration layer for service abstraction. This makes the creation and management of new functions for enterprise customers at lot easier and quicker.
