Scott Petty named as new Vodafone’s new CTO from the New Year

Johan Wibergh is retiring, Alberto Ripepi will become the new Chief Network Officer

Scott Petty (pictured) announced on LinkedIn that he is “both delighted and honoured to be promoted to Chief Technology Officer of Vodafone, as well as to the Group Executive Committee from 1 January 2023”. Petty is currently Vodafone’s Chief Digital & IT Officer.

With Alberto Ripepi, who becomes Chief Network Officer, Petty says they will co-lead Vodafone Technology – a tech team of more than 30,000 employees – following the retirement of Johan Wibergh at the end of 2022. He added, “The fact that both Alberto and I will be on the Executive Committee from the start of next year underlines the importance Vodafone places on technological innovation and excellence in shaping its future. I can’t wait to start.”

Johan Wibergh took the role of CTO in May 2015, and is seen as the architect of Vodafone’s telco to techco strategy. Petty adds, “We will miss him and will continue to take forward our Tech 2025 strategy and reap the benefits of bringing together our technology teams into one powerful organisation to serve our customers.”

Wibergh is a former winner of Mobile Europe’s CTO of the Year Award.

Petty has big shoes to step into and also will be under the spotlight in terms of turning around Vodafone’s financial situtation, with investors agitating about its poor share price and the lack of return on investment from all the transformation efforts.
