BSS system will help telco realise, optimise and monetise
Orange France has committed itself to five years of using Ericsson Charging as it seeks ways to ‘monetise’ its 5G subscribers. Now Ericsson Charging’s experts must integrate their system with Orange’s legacy business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) billing systems, resulting in optimized cost and agility across Orange operations.
The agreement builds on a long standing Ericsson-Orange France partnership. In 2019, Ericsson was selected by Orange France as its Business Support Systems (BSS) provider for real-time online charging system to modernize and standardize charging systems for prepaid and hybrid users. This latest collaboration will ensure that Orange is equipped with the options to address future market demands, said an Ericsson release. It also allows Orange to build on the skills of local Ericsson teams to drive the project forward.
Realise 5G potential
The standards-based, cloud-native Ericsson Charging solution will serve 28 million Orange France customers, roamers-in and private mobile radio users. In addition there are 20 million Internet of Things (IoT) devices which are run by a container based system that uses Ericsson’s Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution (CNIS). “Orange France wants to drive its evolution to a full converged charging system for its 5G network,” said Franck Bouétard, head of Ericsson France, “Ericsson Charging enables them to realize, create and capitalize on new digital opportunities.”
Emmanuel Lugagne Delpon, Orange France’s CTO, said ‘advanced technology’, ‘time to market for new products and services’, optimized operational costs and an improvement in overall customer experience, with real-time information, were the main motivations for using Ericsson Charging.
