Orange Belgium on Monday named Stefan Slavnicu as its new chief technology officer, effective in September.
He will replace Gabriel Flichy, holder of the position since November 2012, who will move to Orange France to manage the firm’s ongoing fibre-to the-home (FTTH) rollout.
Slavnicu will join Orange Belgium from its sister company in Romania, where he also serves as CTO.
The telco credits Slavnicu with developing the technical strategy and policy that underpin its various products and services, ensuring network coverage, quality and profitability, including the extension of 4G coverage to 94% of the Romanian population by the end of last year.
He joined Orange Romania in 2000 as a network engineer, rising up the ranks to become technology chief four years ago, and joining the Orange Services board 18 months ago.
“I am very pleased to welcome Stefan to manage and further develop our network,” said Michaël Trabbia, chief executive of Orange Belgium
“His extensive telecom technology experience and knowledge will be of great value for Orange Belgium, in particular regarding our IoT business and the road towards 5G,” Trabbia said.
Meanwhile, Slavnicu himself talked up Orange Belgium’s 4G network expertise and recently-launched mobile IoT network.
Going forward, “our attention will focus particularly on bringing the best network experience to our customers through the newest technologies and on developing our collaboration with network partners and operational efficiency,” he said.
