Software services meet standards for privacy and security
Nokia has won a major security commendation for its software services from top telecoms authority the GSMA. The approval is the equivalent of a hallmark of quality in the networking industry.
Nokia’s iSIM Secure Connect system was accredited by the GSMA after convincing the members of the wireless operating group that it’s systematic approach to managing information obviates security risks and protects data. The certification validates any information security management system and advertises the fact that the equipment maker meets the highest security standards, according to Nokia.
GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) confirms the quality and competence of security and privacy policies, procedures and controls. It polices an important role in security by supporting additional certifications in compliance with other external standards. In this way it has harmonised the use of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001, System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 and the Cloud Security Alliance.
With the GSMA accreditation in hand, Nokia will now pursue those additional certifications for incorporation within its other software services (SaaS) later this year and into 2023.
GSMA’s SAS is typically the minimum requirement for a security grade by communications service providers (CSPs) across the globe. Reaching this significant milestone gives operators and enterprises a high degree of confidence in the use of Nokia iSIM Secure Connect in a SaaS delivery model.
The iSIM (integrated SIM) Secure Connect, through a software service delivery model, manages machine-to-machine and consumer device subscriptions for devices with either embedded SIMs, or, eSIMs and iSIM-enabled devices. iSIM Secure Connect allows controllers to automate the entire eSIM/iSIM profile lifecycle management process;. It also enables CSPs and enterprises to get devices on to a network quickly and to manage connected devices on a grand scale. Finally, it creates new opportunities to monetise services through the use of trusted digital identities.
Since November 2021, Nokia has introduced seven SaaS services, including iSIM Secure Connect, NetGuard Cybersecurity Dome, Nokia Home Device Management and Nokia AVA NWDAF, which improves network operations with closed-loop automation tat uses both AI and machine learning.
GSMA certification says Nokia is providing the highest security standards and flexibility that will meet and surpass the expectations of any customer wanting a secure software service, according to Mark Bunn, Senior VP of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia. “We are improving the time-to-value for CSPs and enterprises who have on-demand access to our SaaS services,” said Bunn.
