Segmenting industry into network slices
Finland’s 5G facilitator Nokia has signed a memo of understanding (MoU) with the Dubai government network provider Nedaa to upgrade the telco’s Radio Access Networks (RAN) and Core. “Security providers across the world are adopting 5G technology,” said Kamal Ballout, Head of Enterprise, for China, India and MEA at Nokia.
Nedaa’s network already uses Nokia’s infrastructure to support many mission-critical networks. The introduction of 5G will increase the range and sophistication of the services that improve public safety and manage vital operations. The emergency services will now provide immersive applications to first responders so they can locate patients quicker and navigate unusual environments more adeptly. The technology and the apps it supports will connect and automate vehicles, conduct video surveillance and remotely control thousands of connected devices and sensors run by Internet of Things systems.
The MoU has created a framework for upgrading the existing network and introducing agile and advanced services to government organisations with higher expectations of security and reliability. The new options offered by 5G network slicing will help Nedaa provide segment-related solutions to different industry problems, including those of oil and gas, transport and other government organisations. The MoU also lays the foundation for identifying the most appropriate 5G use cases for capturing new opportunities and monetisation, said a Nokia statement.
Nokia will train Nedaa employees and update its Integrated Operations Center (IOC) as the integration and enablement layer for all 5G use cases. Future ambitions include Industry 4.0, smart city applications and public safety as part a path to futuristic services. “We are now looking forward to using Nokia’s 5G expertise to provide innovative services to our users,” said Nedaa CEO H.E Mansoor Bu Osaiba, “our upgrade paves the way for futuristic services such as the metaverse.”
