South Korean robot maker Doosan Corporation has accepted an initial order of 5G mmWave 28 GHz beam forming antenna modules from its compatriots at FRTek, a telecommunication smart repeater manufacturing company.
Beaming 5G signals at Doosan robots only makes them stronger
The modules are a core part of 5G wireless repeaters based on the beamforming antenna technology pioneered by Movandi, which was formed by former employees of Broadcom.
The new types of antenna can integrate functions – such as signal transmission, reception and frequency conversion – and consequently run them more efficiently. They respond to both to the 28GHz frequency band (26.5-28.9GHz) used by all Korean wireless carriers and the frequency bands used by Europe, Africa, the US and Japan.
Doosan going for high added value
Meanwhile, Doosan is expanding its business to offer copper clad laminate (CCL) which is applicable to mobile, semiconductors, networks, automotive electronic devices and 5G/6G telecommunications. This is where all the opportunities lie for adding high value, said a statement from Doosan.
Exclusive rights to 5G antenna
Doosan secured the exclusive right to manufacture and sell 5G antenna modules from Movandi last year. Doosan has since been setting up lines at its factory in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, to produce 5G antenna modules.
