Assuming it is approved, the deal should help KPN hit its goal of covering 80% of the Netherlands with fibre by the end of 2026
Netherlands operator KPN is to acquire local access provider Kabeltex, which should help it deliver its goal of covering 80% of the Netherlands with fibre by the end of 2026.Â
KPN says it will add Kabeltex’s fibre infrastructure to its own wholesale offering which all kinds of service providers can resell as retail broadband services.
Kabeltex has full fibre coverage on the island of Texel and in the north of North Holland. It in rolling out fibre in other three cities. In all, it has 18,000 homes connected to its infrastructure.
No financial information was made public and of course the transaction is still subject to the usual approvals.
KPN’s fibre drive kicked off in earnest in 2021 when it set up the fibre joint venture Glaspoort with the Netherlands’ largest pension provider, APG.
In November, KPN launched a new growth strategy based on automation, AI and fibre, and committed to spending €4.5 billion to boost connectivity.
The operator states it has more than 4 million broadband customers.
