Inmarsat launches BGAN for Middle East

With a complete virtual model of every facet of the non-terrestrial network, any mobile operator can emulate and validate everything on their NTN 5G without having to ‘be there’ .

Integration of satellite, cellular and radio covers all bases

Inmarsat has unveiled a new connectivity option for the Middle East which aims to aims to help businesses overcome coverage redundancy and downtime associated with traditional radio systems, writes Mark Holmes in a report in Satellite Today. The system is a joint effort involving contributions from Hytera, Global Beam Telecom and Cobham Satcom who take a link from Inmarsat to create a push-to-talk (PTT) offering branded as BGAN PRISM PTT+. This satellite connection is now available through Hytera mobile radios.

Unified comms

This new unified network combines satellite connectivity, radio systems (LMR/DMR) and cellular devices (3G/LTE). The satellite operator intends to massively improve the customer’s experience of coverage, interoperability and capability. It argues that incorporating satellite with other comms types coverage will provide exceptional network resilience, achieving seamless switching between radio and satellite while sustaining constant coverage anywhere in the world.

In a statement Shabeer Mohammad, Global Beam Telecom’s MD said that sharing the new BGAN PRISM PTT+ system gives its customer the ultimate flexibility. “As the system integrator, we are delighted to be configuring the expertise of the four companies that boast years of experience in their respective fields and bringing the ultimate flexible connectivity solution to enterprise customers,” said Mohammad.
