Huawei has partnered with Peugeot and Citroën parent Groupe PSA to develop new connected car solutions.

The European carmaker’s Connected Vehicle Modular Platform (CVMP) is designed to enable services such as remote car diagnostics and remote-controlled battery charging and pre-heating.

The platform will also enable over-the-air software updates, traffic information and navigation, as well as car sharing and fleet management.

There will also be the potential to launch customised services such as personal assistants, Groupe PSA said.

CVMP is built on Huawei’s OceanConnect platform, which provides APIs that allow developers to connect their applications to data from IoT devices.

Groupe PSA will begin to roll out the platform for customers in Europe and China in 2018, with other regions to follow at an unspecified time.

Eric Xu, Huawei’s Rotating CEO, said: “Groupe PSA leverages innovative solutions to provide mobility services to their customers. I believe that, by working with partners, Groupe PSA will be able to turn their mobility services into a new benchmark of the global automobile industry, and ultimately become a global leader.”

Groupe PSA signed up Qualcomm earlier this year to integrate its Snapdragon 820 Automotive processor into its vehicles’ infotainment systems.

Qualcomm said it would enable the company to deliver immersive in-car experiences, with music and video streaming, 3-D navigation, support for multiple high-resolution displays, and superior GPU performance.
