EE passes 400MBps in tri-band CA trial at Wembley

EE has demonstrated speeds of more than 400MBps in fresh tri-band carrier aggregation trials with Qualcomm and Huawei.

The test was held at Wembley Stadium in London, where EE will switch on dual-band carrier aggregation later this month, offering consumers peak speeds of 150MBps by linking 20MGHz in both the 1800MHz and 2.6GHz bands.

To demonstrate the tri-band carrier aggregation speeds, which used Qualcommโ€™s Snapdragon 810 Cat 9 processor in a UK first, EE set up an audio-visual installation at Wembley offering 4K, HD and high quality audio streaming.

Fotis Karonis, CTO at EE, said: โ€œSmarter devices with more data intensive video and audio demands are launching all the time. Itโ€™s trials like these at Wembley Stadium that allow us to ensure EE customers continue to get the very best experiences from their mobile network now and in the future.

โ€œThis is a showcase of what a truly amazing 4G network can do, and is a big step in our ambition to make Wembley Stadium the most connected stadium in the world.โ€

Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice-President and President of Qualcomm Europe, added: โ€œCategory 9 LTE-A delivers increased capacity across networks and incredibly fast download speeds, providing consumers with dramatically improved mobile connectivity and richer experiences that they are increasingly seeking, such as 4K.โ€
