A1 Telekom Austria Group joins HERE Marketplace to expand analytics business

A1 is the first telcos to join the Netherlands-based location data and technology platform.

A1 Telekom Austria Group, a provider of digital services and communications solutions in the CEE region, has joined the HERE Marketplace.

It is the first telecoms company on HERE’s global hub for location data exchange, which it will use as a distribution channel, offering location and mobility analytics based on anonymised data about movement provided by A1’s cellular network.

The data is based on signals between cell towers and mobile phones connected to the A1 network. All movement data used for analytics and analytical products comply with GDPR.

The processing and usage of this data are also certified by TÜV. The aggregated data gives insights into people’s movements and overall mobility patterns. It can improve how cities and infrastructure are built, traffic is planned, tourism is managed, and retail operations are set up.

HERE Marketplace

The HERE Marketplace is claimed to simplify how an ecosystem companies and organisations can buy, sell and share a variety of location-centric assets. Hence A1 Telekom Austria Group intends to expand the reach of its data business and address customers from industries and sectors inlcuding automotive, transport and logistics, mobility, tourism, retail and infrastructure planning.

The HERE Marketplace is a component of the HERE location platform – other elements include HERE Workspace, a cloud-based environment designed to help create, deploy and scale location-centric data products, services and applications securely, and HERE Studio. This is a web application to visualise geospatial data and create custom web maps.

HERE Technologies is majority-owned by a consortium of German automotive companies (Audi, BMW, and Daimler), and other minority stake holders. Its roots stretch back to the US-based GPS firm Navteq in 1985, which was acquired by Nokia in 2007.
