Huawei demonstrates NFV solutions and deployments

Huawei has been demonstrating its latest NFV solutions and deployments, including a proof of concept with Telefónica.

The China-based vendor shared the results of a PoC it has recently completed with Telefónica for the carrier’s UNICA infrastructure, an open and future-oriented network framework, at the Big Telecom Event (BTE) held in Chicago this week. 

UNICA successfully centralised the management of data centres in various regions by using a single virtual data centre, enabling efficient data sharing among internal networks and the rapid delivery of telecom services and internal applications.

Huawei also showed CloudEdge, its solution for NFV implementation featuring a virtual multiservice engine (vMSE) as one of the core components. 

The vMSE offers an open platform for sharing that enables the aggregation of data traffic with various access modes and integrates many third-party applications. In so doing it provides a unified management channel and opens network resources and data analysis capabilities to the applications. 

Libin Dai, Director of Integrated Solutions for Huawei’s Carrier Business Group, commented: “Successful deployment of NFV can drastically shorten the technological innovation cycle for telecom operators, expedite new service launches, reduce operation and maintenance costs, and realise traffic monetisation. We believe this will pave the way towards a new era of ICT integration.”

Sean Chen, director of Huawei’s NFV Laboratory in the US, discussed ways in which the Huawei’s NFV solution could increase sources of revenue for telecom operators. He said Huawei’s “mobile infrastructure network” concept allows end users to enjoy consistent internet and mobile services anywhere in the world. 

Another Huawei concept, the “personal mobile network” allows users to customise and build their own service chains to obtain intuitive, relevant, and personalised services, creating a strong traffic monetisation opportunity for operators.
