Cisco targets mobile video as it adds cloud services to Videoscape platform

Cisco has expanded its Videoscape TV delivery platform with a series of new cloud capabilities that includes a focus on mobile video.

Alongside an industry-first Videoscape “as-a-service” offering there are new software technologies, including the Open UX Foundation.

Cisco promises that this will enhance the functionality and performance of smart devices running HTML5 applications, thereby making it faster and easier for service providers and media companies to deploy video services, such “Any Screen TV” capabilities that deliver live video and on-demand video, from the cloud.

Tim Sheppard, Business Development Manager at Cisco EMEAR, told Mobile Europe: “Videoscape was created to help service providers stand up to online competition and quickly create online offerings of their own, and now those providers can create offerings faster than ever.”

Together, Cisco claims Videoscape’s new cloud services will provide “simplified options” to deliver new consumer experiences, such as second screen and 4Kvideo, and offer more customisation and personalisation for viewing and sharing content across multiple devices.

“People are using mobile devices alongside their TV viewing and part of the Videoscape solution is to provide more companion device functionality,” said Sheppard.

The US-based vendor said the expanded Videoscape offering is part of a broader “virtualisation strategy” that gives operators the ability to capitalise on the Internet of Everything.
