Broadsoft puts RCS in the cloud

Broadsoft, a provider of Unified Communications technology and services, has added RCS capability to its BroadCloud platform.

The company said that the addition of Rich Communications Services (RCS) to its BroadCloud Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform would provide mobile operators with managed service delivery of converged messaging, presence, media sharing, voice and video calling.

“Market adoption of RCS solutions has been slowed by high initial and total costs of ownership, and high complexity that delays deployment,” said Scott Hoffpauir,  BroadSoft's CTO. “BroadCloud RCS significantly reduces risks and costs associated with a service provider’s RCS deployment, so they can go live quickly with advanced communications services that include integrated multimedia and messaging solutions.”
 
BroadCloud said its RCS could be deployed in either IMS or non-IMS network environments. For non-IMS networks, BroadSoft said it provides IMS functionality as an integral part of the managed RCS solution. This provides the ability to deliver the RCS user experience whilst retaining the ability to migrate to IMS at any time.
 
BroadSoft's core communications platform incudes BroadWorks®, BroadCloud and BroadTouch™, and offers an extensive range of consumer and business communications applications, including Voice over LTE (VoLTE), RCS, RCS-e, Unified Communications, conferencing and collaboration. By providing a cloud-based delivery model for RCS, BroadSoft extends its Telephony Application Server (TAS)/VoLTE platform to provide comprehensive IMS application layer support in global IMS deployments.
