Holistic approach to threats, abuse and mitigation
Nokia has opened America’s first end-to-end 5G testing lab in in Dallas, Texas. The Advanced Security Testing and Research (ASTaR) will take an ‘holistic approach to researching and testing’ both systems and threat mitigations, looking beyond individual network elements and focus on the larger context of network use and abuse scenarios.
The lab is to be a font of cybersecurity knowledge that will be shared by Nokia and its customers, be they mobile operators, enterprises and governments. Together they will ‘game’ various attack scenarios against networks and see how their hypothetical security measures fare against real security incursions.
ASTaR lab will be staffed by US-based specialists in cybersecurity and located on Nokia’s Dallas campus. In addition, ASTaR will use the security research from Nokia Bell Labs. Nokia’s Dallas office also features the Executive Experience Center, Energy Innovation Center, O-RAN Collaboration and Testing Center, Cloud Collaboration Hub and Nokia Services Lab, making Dallas a destination for the entire US Nokia experience.
“The industry must be hyper-vigilant in ensuring 5G ecosystems are secure. The ASTaR lab is the ideal testing ground to assess security in the larger context of network use and abuse,” said Nishant Batra, Nokia’s Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, “to demonstrate our leadership and commitment to security, Nokia will be the first to inaugurate a lab in the US.”
