Huawei offers virtualisation Testing-As-A-Service

Huawei has launched a new testing solution for operators interested in software defined networking and network functions virtualisation.

TestCraft, a testing-as-a-service platform, is an attempt to reduce the costs and resources involved with researching virtualisation technology.

The platform offers operators a range of network functions and services, test domains to trial implementations, automation, and life cycle management for a deployment.

Huawei said it hopes the platform can serve as a way for operators to overcome testing challenges, with virtualisation projects involving a wealth of different vendors, domains and interfaces. The vendor added operators also face challenges in ensuring network quality while deploying the technology.

The platform has been designed to meet both technology and operational questions in rolling out virtualisation, as well as anticipating future challenges that may present themselves in deploying the technology.

Jacky Hu, General Manager of SDN/NFV Consulting and Integration Services at Huawei, said: “Our TestCraft offering will take full advantage of the test technology experience and take full account of the complex characteristics of the telecommunication network.

“Furthermore, we make innovations on the test methodology, test architecture, test process and test delivery model, to provide leading professional testing services for our operator’s network.”

The platform may be welcomed by operators who are finding virtualisation deployments difficult because of the associated complexity. In July, Telefónica, seen as one of the most enthusiastic backers of virtualisation, commissioned a report from Analysys Mason, which said the Spanish operator was facing difficulties with technological and vendor immaturity.

Last week, Vodafone said it was partnering with IBM to help make virtualisation easier for enterprises.
