Ericsson’s research says operators could account for almost half the total value of the ICT market for 5G-enabled business-to-business (B2B).
The research, Ericsson 5G for business: a 2030 market compass report is based on more than 200 use cases across ten industries, and 5G-enabled use-case ‘clusters’ – that is those that are common to diverse industries.
The report quantifies the value of the potential addressable market for service providers.
It found that 47% of the total ICT market (up to $700 billion/€634.7 billion) enabled by 5G could be served by network operators by 2030.
This is based on more than 200 use cases across ten different industries, and a set of 5G-enabled business-to-business (B2B) use case clusters.
The industries covered in the report are manufacturing, automotive, energy and utilities, public safety, healthcare, media and entertainment, public transport, financial services, retain and agriculture.
The report analysed and conducted an in-depth look at the changes per industry since its report last year.
How to capture market share
To support service providers, recommendations are based on an analysis of each industry, to outline drivers and barriers and provide guidance for how to succeed in new markets.
Among use case clusters that cut across these industries, enhanced video services represent the largest value pool, with up to 17% (about €107.9 billion) of the total value by 2030.
Other key findings include:
• Revenues for current services are expected to remain flat through to 2030, whereas B2B digitalisation opportunities will grow faster.
• If realised, the 5G-enabled B2B opportunities that service providers could account for amount to as much as 35% in addition to service revenues by 2030.
• To succeed in capturing this potential, service providers must act in the next five to seven years, while roles and market shares become established.
Use case clusters
Use case clusters include enhanced video services, real-time automation, connected vehicles and remote operations through augmented and virtual reality.
