2G will prove an important technology in the future of IoT connectivity, despite the rise of LPWAN technology, an Orange executive has claimed.
Speaking on a panel at Mobile Europe and European Communications’ recent IoT in Telecoms conference, Ronan Le Bras, Head of Technical Strategy for Wireless Networks at Orange, argued the likes of LoRa, LTE-M and NB-IoT will continue to aid IoT networks into the 5G era. He added 2G will also remain relevant in specific use cases.
Vincent Hebbelynck, Head of Technology Incubation & Corporate Venturing at Proximus, said he believed a mixed approach to IoT technology is better for operators and customers. It has NB-IoT and LoRa networks in place across Belgium.
