Motorola Inc.’s Global Telecom Solution Sector (GTSS) today announced it has worked with TIM, the wireless arm of Telecom Italia Group, to provide an end to end WiFi solution. Motorola’s WiFi system is part of the corporate wireless service portfolio which TIM offers to the enterprises throughout Italy.
Motorola was chosen by TIM to co-design, deploy and support a hybrid WiFi system for private as well as public WiFi users within the enterprise. The private network provides wireless Internet and intranet access to employees, while the public network gives wireless Internet access to visitors such as consultants, suppliers and customers. Users can benefit from broadband speed connectivity without the need for a wired connection.
The system proposed by Motorola was chosen by TIM as it could be easily integrated with TIM’s existing user authentication solution (SIM Based Authentication). Motorola is also specifically responsible for providing the WiFi hardware and software and managing the installation, deployment and ongoing maintenance of the system at TIM’s customer sites.
Margaret Rice-Jones, corporate vice president of Motorola Inc. and general manager, Motorola GTSS EMEA, said: “As enterprises demand more flexibility from their employees and partners, in turn the need for flexible connectivity within the enterprise becomes paramount. By working with TIM to offer both public and private WiFi systems within enterprises, Motorola is addressing this need and demonstrating its commitment to the EMEA market for all types of wireless infrastructure.”
The system Motorola designed is divided into three areas: the radio network, which includes WiFi access points and cards; the core network, which includes routers and firewalls; and cabling, which will be provided by TIM.
