TCS announced as Lucent’s SMSC vendor of choice and reseller of Lucent platforms to support SMSC
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc, a global leader in wireless data technology, and Lucent Technologies have announced that they have signed an agreement which allows TCS to be one of a select group of companies authorized to resell Lucent’s Intelligent Network platforms. The Lucent platforms will be sold in conjunction with TCS’ Short Message Service Center (SMSC) Application, which was previously sold exclusively by Lucent under a 1996 agreement with TCS. In addition, Lucent will promote TCS as its “partner of choice” for SMSC solutions for its worldwide wireless customer base.
The arrangement allows TCS to sell SMSC platforms directly to TCS’ growing worldwide customer base, in conjunction with its broad suite of wireless messaging and location products. Further, the SMSC partner of choice designation will allow TCS to work in cooperation with Lucent to continue to provide the SMSC solution to Lucent’s broad customer base in the mobile networking marketplace.
“TCS has been a valuable partner to Lucent,” said Roger Derrien, vice president for UMTS and Intelligent Network product management with Lucent’s Mobility Solutions Group. “With TCS, we have positioned the SMSC as an entry solution for Lucent’s Intelligent Network platforms. We plan to position this joint solution worldwide as a viable option to those operators just starting to offer messaging services or those who are interested in replacing their existing systems with a cutting-edge solution backed by the combined strength of TCS’ messaging expertise and Lucent’s mobile networking and application and services delivery experience.”
TCS’ SMSC Application is supported on a broad set of Lucent Intelligent Networking Platforms that offer exceptional performance and reliability, and can scale to meet the needs of customers of any size. The agreement also provides the framework for delivery of the SMSC application on Lucent’s next-generation, converged-services platforms, combining the benefits of an open, standards-based architecture with the power and robust capabilities of Lucent’s Intelligent Network middleware.
“This agreement strengthens a relationship that has continued for more than eight years and provides enhanced business terms,” said Maurice B. Tosé, Chairman, President and CEO of TCS. “The SMSC partner of choice status opens doors to a broader set of wireless carriers than ever before. TCS can now directly offer our full complement of messaging solutions to more than 30 operators currently using TCS’ wireless location technologies based on our award-winning Xypoint Location Platform (XLP).”
